Germany

The Pomeranian breed of dog is from the spitz family of dogs. Its name originated from the Pomerania region of eastern germany. The Pomeranian dogs first came from the sled dogs of Iceland and Lapland, and where eventually brought to Pomerania in Europe. Breeders of this dog in Pomerania managed to improve the dogs coat and bred the dogs down for city living, but they where still quite large dogs at this time. When the dogs reached England, the breeders there are credited with reducing the dogs size and developing the many colours available.

These dogs in general are intelligent dogs which are very active. They love to be taken out for walks and are very loyal companions. They can also be trained to become good watchdogs.
