The Shetland Sheepdog breed originate from Scotand where it was bred to be a small sheepdog which was suited to the terrain of the Shetland Islands in Scotland. The Shetland Sheepdog is commonly known by its nickname, the 'Sheltie'. In the UK Kennel club, the Shetland Sheepdog is classified in the 'Pastoral' dog breed group.
Shetland Sheepdogs make great companions as they are very loyal to their owners. Shelties are very intelligent dogs and are therefore quite easy to train.
